A profile that really stood out to me was "Ink Removal Specialist Dawn Maestas, 42, talks with her client Nicole Mendoza, 22". Dawn became an ink removal specialist because of a tattoo of her ex abusers name on her hand. She said that when she went to school for it, that it felt like the one thing that she was meant to do. Her first tattoo that she removed was hers. She talked about how just a name she looked at everyday, caused her to constantly relive it. Dawn said, "It was like being in a car accident at an intersection: every time you pass that intersection, you remember the impact. And you live it over and over again every day."(Isay 164). Poor Dawn was suffering from PTSD everyday from the traumatizing events that occurred. The events attached to that name and tattoo. Some interesting thinks that I want to know is how much it costs? How does it work, the science of it?

My findings from my research is that a single session of tattoo laser removal averages up to $200 to $500. A tattoo can take up to several sessions to remove, which it all added up can cost to $1,000 or as much as $10,000 (Lim, 2017). Ink laser removal works when the laser penetrates the skin, the laser breaks down the ink inside the skin into smaller particles. Each session the laser destroys the ink layer by layer until the tattoo is gone. The amount of sessions needed all depends on the tattoo, how dark it is, how deep, how bold. It is a case by case situation (How Laser Tattoo Removal Works, 2020).

  1. Good job on explaining how this works. I personally knew that you might have to get more than one appointment to get rid of a tattoo completely, but I didn't know it was so expensive. I've never gotten a tattoo but I doubt that a tattoo is as expensive as the removal process. Like I said before though, nice job giving us the rundown of how this works.

  2. Its really cool to read about how laser removal works. I guess I forgot that the tattoo are deeper in the skin that would make them hard to get to. Listing the price really shows how generousness Dawn Maestas is to do some of the removals for free.
