                                                            Journal Nine 

            The story Callings by Dave Isay is filled with many different inspiring stories of how people found their life’s callings. Each and every story has something meaningful that could be taken away after reading it. The profile the stuck out to me most of all is the one on Barbara Butler, the FMF corpsman. This one impacted me the most because Barbara and her crew of other women were the first women to be in this position. All the men thought that they couldn’t do it but instead of giving up, they worked even harder and proved all the men wrong. Barbara was so passionate about being a FMF corpsman that she didn’t want to be seen as weak. She told the women, “‘We’re not going to cry in front of them’. And so we cried and hugged each other within the confines of our barrack” (Isay 167). This quote stood out to me most of all because it showed how united they were and how they all had each others backs. They were all passionate about their jobs and wanted each other to be successful.

            The two presentations that stood out to me most were Hailey’s presentation on a cardiologist and Issac’s presentation on a taxidermist. During Hailey’s presentation, I learned a lot about what a cardiologist is and what their job consists of. I also learned the different types of equipment that is used by a cardiologist. During Issac’s presentation, I learned what a taxidermist is. Before this presentation I had no idea what their job consists of and now I know what they do and how to become one.
