Journal Two
Hello, my name is Arturo Castillo I usually go by Art but its honestly up to you on what name to use. I was born in Miami FL and moved to Georgia a few years later. I loved and hated Georgia when I was growing up, it taught me good ole southern hospitality, and much more that I would get into at a later time. After graduating from High School in Georgia, I quickly went to college and realized how expensive it was to continue since I was struggling at the time. A year or so later I joined the Air Force which took me to a few locations overseas the following years and taught me much about life, that I will never get to see, hear, or experience without leaving my narrowminded home in Georgia. It is a blessing to be able to now go to school without the stressors I had before.
So far, the read is good and the theme to me is struggling. “We had to leave the flat on Loomis quick. The water pipes broke and the landlord wouldn’t fix them because the house was too old. We had to leave fast. We were using the washroom next door and carrying water over in empty milk gallons.” (page 4). Imagine how old that house was and all the small problems it had. So far in the read Esperanza seems to be doing great. Making friends having a better-located home and new bike with her peers. It makes me wonder more about their past and how they live since they are a Mexican family like myself.
Hey, Art. Congrats on serving, its mad respect. My dad served in the Air Force too, which is the safest route to go. I hope you valued all of those accumulating experiences. To me, the closest thing to Serving & the miliarty lifestyle is Boy Scouts. With that I felt like I had some really harsh moments whenever we went out backpacking for 10 straight days in the middle of nowhere with around 60 pounds on our backs to backpacking in a thunderstorm to being ripped on by the scout master. Some of those moments absolutely suck, but how did those moments impact you in the long term?
