One and Done and the house on mango street are very neat and interesting books that are giving me and outside perspective on other people’s lives. Active reading is really working for me although I believe that I could be highlighting more locations.
The strengths for one and done is that its very interesting to me and that Maurice Clarets is keeping things short and not adding too many details that are not needed. While I do believe he could do better on explaining why some of the things he writes about has significance in his life. For example his drug dealing student aid did not seem to phase him that much, but if that happened in my life it would be life changing. The strengths for a house on mango street is that it read more like short story’s that are very intriguing and contain a great amount of detail for such short writings. However I do feel like that some of the points she tries to make get lost in reading it because of how she writes. I prefer One and done because I find it more interesting due to him living in ohio and how we view celebrities in America.
A question I have for Maurice clarets is “ do you think you would have been a better or worse person if you where to have grown up in a different socioeconomic area in ohio.”
One thing I found in chapter 4 was when he quoted how manny murders are in Youngstown every year, “ There were more than 500 murders in Youngstown in the 1990s. That’s almost twice the people of my high school graduating class. If we all were to die it would make front page news. I think that that manny people ding due to murder is a tragedy. I find it interesting that the NCAA would make him stay there in such a dangerous place. It’s almost like they feel that he should be forced to stay in a bad environment simply because his family lives there. I don’t understand what reason would that rule need to be in place.
Hey Angelo, I agree with your strengths on the novels and I as wondering if you saw any weaknesses in the novels?
ReplyDeleteI completely agree, I think NCAA should look at cases singularly and make ecceptions for this rule because I think for Clarette this apartment was a life changing opportunity to get him out of trouble
