Journal Three - Berger

Michael Berger

Journal Three

I believe that I am good at thinking about what is happening in the book and making connections. I am not good about writing it down, ill underline the things that I find important but that is about it. I do write down the things that we go over in class though. In One And Done I believe that its strength is a cohesive story, it’s easy to fallow and see where the author is growing. I think do not think that The House on Mango Street has a has clean timeline because its not as apparent where Esperanza is in life, but the writing itself has a nice flow and good metaphor use. One And Done does have a nice time line flow but each paragraph can’t be a little choppy. I prefer The House on Mango Street so far because it is a lighter type of book, I do not care to read things that are too serious.

In the first chapter it talks about how his farther beat his mother and I was wondering if he has ever wanted to get revenge for his mother. In the first chapters is was clear how Clarett was connected to the gangs and how he could end in a bad spot. In the fourth and fifth chapter he makes it clear that he is starting to pull away for that life and is trying to live more honesty. This bring up another question, what happened that pushed him back into that? What happened to put him where he was, at the beginning of the book?

  1. Hi Michael, I had a similar question that I would like to ask Mr. Clarett. I also think that Cisneros does a good job at hidden metaphors.

  2. Hey Michael, I really liked your questions. I didn't think of those until I saw this. It really makes me think about why did he go back into the life of crime.

  3. Good question at the end about how he ended up back into what he came from. Makes me curious to find out more about the truth on what happened to Clarett.
