The House on Mango Street— and You, Too

The Chapter that has made the biggest connection to me is “Darius and The Clouds”. In this Chapter, it is a beautiful day outside and kids are outside enjoying it. Cisneros is describing Darius saying he’s not the smartest kid but he said something interesting that day (Cisneros 33). Darius says, “You all see that Cloud, that fat one there? Where? That one next to the one that look like popcorn. That one there. See that. That’s God, Darius said”. I enjoy this because its kids using there imagination. This reminds me of when I was a kid, I would go outside and image clouds being something objects. Sometimes when me and my friends would go outside, we would image sticks being guns and “shoot” at each other. So, I find this chapter interesting because kids are using there imagination inside of being on technology or staying inside.

This is a tiny blue crab figurine. My Grandma got me this when she went to Hawaii. This has a lot of sentimental value to me ,since it is the last thing I remember getting from my grandma before she passed away. So, it will never leave its spot on the shelf with the other decorations.

  1. I find it interesting that you chose this chapter to use for this blog. This is one of the more innocent chapters out of the entire book, because like you said, the kids are using there imagination. It's hard to think that we still aren't too far away from that as we are now, thinking about what we want most, and for some of us, we probably miss being able to imagine anything as anything without a thought in the world. I know I do.

  2. I like that you picked this chapter. I think a lot of kids in todays world don’t experience all the things we did when we were little. Kids can work electronics and video games before the age of two. It’s kinda sad if you think about it. I also love the story behind the blue crab. I also have something from my grandma before she passed away.

  3. Hi Timothy, I thought you did a good job at relating this chapter to your own life. It shows you made a personal connection with the book. That's awesome how something so small has a lot of value to you.
