My grandfather is one of the hardest workers I know, I
have never met someone who has more passion for their work. From a young age
his father was never really present in his life, because of this he was forced
to become the man of the household. He graduated high school and didn’t have a
lot of direction in his life so he went into the military. During these years
it was installed into his brain to outwork everyone else and to do the best
work possible. He was forced to be put into a schedule which helped him later
on in life. After he got out of the military he moved to San Francisco and used
the money he got from the military to buy a gas station. It was hard the first
couple of years but then he slowly began to open a chain of gas stations and
became very successful. I think what most drove my grandfather to being
successful was that he knew he had to support his family.
What stuck out to me most in Callings
was that work should be more than
just earning a living, you should enjoy what you do. If your heart is not in
what you do then your life will not be as enjoyable. It’s like the saying,
choose a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life .
The profile that stuck out to me most was Barbara, she had a positive look on her job and was excited that she could work in the outdoors. This is a good trait to have as a person, always look at the positive things in every situation. It felt personal because she was able to listen in on peoples conversations, she says, “So you get this little tiny snapshot of people’s personal lives they don’t even realize that they’re giving you”(Isay19).
This is my grandfather and my mom in San Francisco. It was his first time ever getting Starbucks.
Hey Judson, I think that lesson you pulled out of the introduction was a very important one a lot of people lose sight on. Most people nowadays look for a career to slave away to and make a lot of money, even though it may not be something they love.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment, Life won't be as enjoyable if we don't do what we want for a career.
