Callings 1st connections

One person that I personally know that has the most passion and purpose in what he does for work is my old sociology teacher.  He is a very social and fun teacher which sticks out for me in a person in general. He relates sociology with his fun personality, and it made the class so interesting and fun for me. I am currently taking sociology in college and the class is asynchronous; the teacher is cool, but he can't offer that in class interactive experience.  To me, my old sociology teacher was so committed and taught with a purpose because he felt like he had such a great opportunity. He could open the door of sociology to many intellectual students in a top academic high school, which I felt gave him drive as well. Lastly he shared many stories about his schooling to become a soc teacher that were unique and pulled your ear.

The purpose of the introduction of Callings to me was to show people that they're not alone when they do not know what tey want to do for the rest of their lives. There is a lot of trial and error and overwhelming feelings with certain decisions leading you up to your calling. One quote went like, "Hard work. Blood work. Love work." (Isay, 4.) This was a saying he mentioned that was a description for the work lives of people who finally found their callings. Personally, I liked this passage; I learned that this book might actually be of value to me because of the wisdom in just the introductory. For a better answer, I learned that if you want your dream job it takes about 3x the work to find and achieve your calling.

My favorite profile out of the four was the street-corner astronomer. I learned about this how this calling happened by just time and searching around. Uncle Herman Heyn wanted to be a scientist, but he had various things restricting him from his dream. The main factor that helped him find his passion was his 8th grade science teacher. He explained how how he had an assignment with looking at stars and he feel in love. Herman Heyn mentioned, "So I went out and found it (a certain star for an assignment) that night and thought it was totally beautiful. I good hooked on astronomy from that very moment" (Isay, 1.) I learned from this story that sometimes you can not even look for what your calling is, and it will find you. Maybe it is a better thing for your calling to find you instead of trying to force it.

I included an image of this one guy some people might know (Danny Duncan). He is a good example of a person who found his calling. He started from being a homeless college drop out to working hard and becoming a very successful multimillionaire/ strong influencer.

  1. Hello, Zach! In high school, I had a biology teacher that was very passionate about teacher and I could relate to your first paragraph. It's ironic his name was Mr. McGuire and no he wasn't related to me lol. But he was very good at his job and could answer every question you asked him. I watch Danny Duncan and his story is awesome and he influences many people.
