Journal Six Stephanie

One of the biggest takeaways I took from the book was that hard work and dedication and proving yourself can get you to the top. Clarett worked countless hours working above and beyond everyone else on the team to become starter and finally he did because he continued giving over 100% and let time take its course. He could’ve quit but refused because he saw what could’ve been.

The second takeaway I took from the book was to not let people push you around. Clarett was pushed around a lot in the book. The university and system was a big one. He let high school take away his education by getting free grades for his athletic ability. So in college he struggled with his education. But the university also just screwed him over multiple times to begin with.

The biggest takeaway from the interview with Clarett was just how he is able to put the past behind him and just focus on the present. He had a challenging past with football and being involved with crime but he worked his way out of the system. He became a good guy who helps others and gives motivation and seems to really have turned his back to his past but use it for educational purposes. He doesn’t see his past as something he never wants to see again but to teach other people to not follow his footsteps to a degree. He was really able to tell us why he did things and even explained why he would never do that kinda stuff ever again too which means he’s grown as a person. He kept an open mindset for the future.

  1. I think your take away from the interview is really good. Clarett seemed like a really educated person when he talked to us in the interview but reading his story we know that most, if not all, of his education came from life not school. This makes me reflect how much is the school education valuable to us

  3. I really like your takeaway from the interview. I had a similar takeaway. Sometimes people are just too focused on what happened in the past and it damages their present and future. "The past can hurt, but you can either run from it or learn from it" - Lion King

  4. I also had a similar takeaway from the interview, our past isn't what defines us. It's encouraging to see him now trying to help others out.
